Windeed receives Approval in Principle from Bureau Veritas
Apr 03, 2023

The Windeed floater solution has been granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) by Bureau Veritas, the world-renowned classification society, marking a significant milestone in the development of Windeed’s innovative technology.

The floater is a low-weight and low-acceleration force solution for offshore wind turbines. With its industrialized manufacturing process, it can offer competitive prices and lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) compared to other solutions on the market.

Bureau Veritas has provided rigorous testing and assessment to ensure the solution is safe, reliable, and ready for deployment. The approval in principle is a testament to the quality and innovation of the technology, and the company is proud to have achieved this important milestone.

- Receiving the Approval in Principle from Bureau Veritas is a great achievement for our team and a validation of the hard work and innovative approach to developing our floating solutions. We are confident that the Windeed floater will make a significant contribution to the global transition to clean energy, says Bertil Moritz, Windeed’s founder and CEO.

As a leading company in floating wind technology, Windeed is committed to contributing to the global reduction of carbon emissions and green energy transition. The Windeed floater solution will play a key role by making offshore wind energy more affordable and accessible.

- We thank Bureau Veritas for their support and recognition of our technology and look forward to deploying our innovative solution in the near future, concludes Bertil Moritz.

A group of six resourceful students from Uppsala University have significantly contributed to floating wind farm development during their three-month research project at Windeed. The students, Mattias Blavier, Elin Granath, Emelie Jin, Elin Johansson, Axel Svensson, and Kristina Thylin, embarked on this project as part of their Bachelor Theses in the energy systems program. Their research aimed to optimize the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) for a typical floating wind farm site, scrutinizing several factors including wind rose data, turbine wake effects, bathymetry, and mooring system requirements. Tom McKay, Project Development Lead at Windeed, commended the students' contribution to the organization, stating, "Their time here has been a valuable learning journey, benefiting both the students and Windeed alike." Floating wind power is recognized by one of the most cost-effective ways to quickly increase renewable energy production with minimal impact on urban and rural landscapes. The research conducted by these students has provided fresh insights into this form of energy production, reinforcing its potential for the future. Windeed applauds the hard work and dedication displayed by the students from Uppsala University and looks forward to observing their continued contributions to renewable energy in the future.
